Walsh Hall was the last building constructed on Main Quad, also known as God Quad. Built in xxxx as a men's residence hall and named for Rev. Thomas Walsh, the University's sixth president, Walsh Hall was one of the first residence halls with single rooms, suites with private bathrooms and bay windows, and closets in every room. When women were originally admitted to the University in xxxx, Walsh and Badin Halls were the first to be converted into women's residence halls.
Corby Hall was built during the spring of xxxx and intended primarily as a dwelling for the priests engaged in teaching at the University. By xxxx the student body had grown so much that the University re-designated Corby Hall as private rooms for older students.
Sorin Hall was the first dormitory built at Notre Dame in xxxx and named in honor of Fr. Edward Sorin, the University founder. The structure as it exists today was completed in xxxx with the addition of two wings. In its early years, Sorin housed Notre Dame's law school, and Sorin's chapel is dedicated to St. Thomas Aquina. Notable former residents include former coaches Knute Rockne, Moose Krause and player George (The Gipper) Gipp. Notre Dame's famed Four Horsemen also resided in Sorin Hall for at least one year during their college careers, during which they helped the team compile a 28-2 record.
Saint Edward's Hall was built in xxxx as a boarding school affiliated with the University. Saint Edward's Hall is the only Notre Dame dormitory that appears in the National Register of Historic Places. In xxxx it was converted into an undergraduate residence hall and has since housed undergraduate males, making it the oldest University building used as a residence hall. In summer xxxx, the third and fourth floors of the building caught fire and were heavily damaged but have since been rebuilt.
Postcard is in Very Good condition. It contains tiny notches where two staples have been manually removed, but these are barely perceptible.
