1914 Stock Certificate - London Theater Company Incorporated in Chicago, Illinois For Sale

Yankee Doodle came to London just to ride the ponies, right? Well, the London Theater Company came to New York.
Red serial-numbered (#1 actually) authentic stock certificate for London Theater Company Incorporated. Document contains dollar-bill green border, embossed pale green seal stating company name in lower left corner, a small graphic of a king's crown at bottom-center and a right-side border graphic of a fully armored knight with mohawk-style plumage on his headgear and carrying a shield in his forehand and a drawn sword in his backhand. Document is hand-signed by both the company's secretary and its vice-president in xxxx and printed by the Broun-Green Co. of New York.
The top-center black and white graphic depicts a Shakespearian-styled woman's head and torso with long hair and wearing what can best be described as a metallic headband with ten-inch wings attached just above the ears. Genuine feathers adorn the outward-facing sides of each wing. Ornate grillwork appears on each side of the woman, and one wreath appears inside each grillwork. The middle of the left-side wreath contains a court jester "sad face", and the middle of the right-side wreath contains a court jester "happy face". Each court jester has a sword plunged into his head and exiting from his mouth.
Broadway's business peaked in the xxxx-28 season, as more than 70 legitimate theatres housed well over 250 shows before the Great Depression decimated the industry, but thanks to the advent of neon lighting, elongated shapes and bright colors became part of the eye-popping nightly glow of the theater marquis district, which often stopped traffic around Times Square and earned Broadway a new nickname: "The Great White Way."
Document is in Very Good condition, but does have one straight 3/4 inch rip at its top-left edge. The rip will not be discernible if the document is placed inside a glassed frame. Suitable for framing; measures 9 3/8 X 11 3/8 inches.
