1915 Memorandum - Chicago Athletic Association (Cubs Logo) in Chicago, Illinois For Sale
Authentic xxxx memorandum on the notepad-sized letterhead of the Chicago Athletic Association (CAA), founded in the early xxxx's and located at 12 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. The letterhead, as well as a prominent mosaic located inside the club, contains the CAA logo, a red "C" with a blue circle around it. William Wrigley spotted the logo here and adopted it as the Chicago Cubs logo.
CAA was a landmark meeting place for Chicago's elites to play sports and mingle. Henry Ives Cobb designed the building?s ornate Venetian façade to be strongly reminiscent of the Doges Palace in Venice to give the Chicago Athletic Association a distinctive identity when viewed from the lakefront, particularly by visitors to the World?s Columbia Exposition of xxxx, the event most responsible for Chicago attaining recognition as a world-class city. Cobb, who was a CAA club member, also enjoyed renown for his designs of the Chicago Historical Society (now Excalibur Club in River North), the Newberry Library, and several buildings at the University of Chicago.
