1920 Periodical - The Women's Press (10 Pages) in Chicago, Illinois For Sale

Price: $15
Type: Art & Antiques, For Sale - Private.

The Chicago Daily Press Co. published this 10-page authentic "new era newspaper" titled The Women's Press on September 25, xxxx, exactly 30 days after the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution became law, and women could vote in the fall elections, including in the Presidential election.
After Congress passed the 19th amendment, 36 states needed to ratify it to make it effective. Tennessee became the 36th state to do so, but by only one vote. State legislator Harry Burn indicated he was going to vote thumbs down, but later changed his mind, and the Amendment eked-out a formal ratification . Why did Burn change his vote at the last minute? His mother told him to.
The Women's Press front cover features picture of three children, ages 15 months to ten years old, wearing their Sunday best apparel. Back cover features full page advertisement for apron dresses from Mandel Brothers Department Store. Front and back cover are on glossy paper.
The inside ten pages use traditional newspaper that shows beginnings of yellowing from age, but the pages are still intact with no rips/tears, although somewhat fragile. News stories on inside pages obviously tend towards women's issues of the day. Price: ten cents per copy
This periodical measures an over-sized 10 1/4 X 14 1/2 inches and is thin enough to be displayed in a glassed frame if you choose to feature the cover only.
