1925 Memorandum - Sanford Writing Inks (Congress & Peoria Streets) in Chicago, Illinois For Sale

Authentic xxxx business memorandum on the letterhead of Sanford Manufacturing Co. located in Chicago with both main offices and factory at Congress and Peoria Streets. Document features pleasing color graphics of a jar of library paste in upper left corner and a bottle of writing ink in upper right corner.
Frederick W. Redington & William H. Sanford Jr. founded the enterprise in Worcester, Massachusetts as an ink and glue manufacturing company in xxxx. Nine years later the company relocated to the booming lakeside town of Chicago. Sanford's factory was damaged five years later in the notorious Great Chicago Fire of xxxx, but was quickly rebuilt. In xxxx, the company acquired a prosperous patent on a "universal ink stand," a safe and clean container for opened ink.
The company thrived, but when another fire destroyed its factory in xxxx, Sanford had a new factory up and running a year later and continued to prosper through the early 20th century as a leading brand of what was then an essential product. Business records and correspondence were all written with fountain pens in this era, and companies, schools, and organizations required constant supplies of fountain pen ink. The company also made other business essentials such as mucilage (rubber cement) and sealing wax.
The company evolved through ownership changes over the decades and still produces popular items today such as Sharpie marking pens, Accent highlighters and Papermate low-end pens for its current corporate parent, Newell Rubbermaid.
Document is in Excellent condition and bears a couple penciled alpha-numeric characters near upper-right corner which do not detract from or spoil the document. Measures 8 3/8 X 10 7/8 inches.
