1929 Stock Certificate- Chemical Romance in Chicago, Illinois For Sale

Some guys buy their sweetie a dozen roses or a box of chocolates. In xxxx, John Francis Queeny named his new company Monsanto Chemical Works after his wife's maiden name, and that proved to be good luck because Monsanto was destined to become a multi-billion dollar conglomerate.
Native Chicagoan Queeny worked as a Buyer in a large wholesale pharmaceutical company before establishing Monsanto Chemical Works in St. Louis to produce the artificial sweetener saccharin, which nobody else produced in the U.S. (Only Germany produced saccharin at that time.) Queeny contracted to exclusively sell saccharin to soft-drink maker Coca Cola and parlayed that contract also to supply Coke with caffeine and vanillin.
Before long, Queeny's company embarked on producing aspirin and became America's largest aspirin producer until the xxxx's. In xxxx Queeny began an acquisition spree to diversify, beginning with an Illinois sulfuric acid company. Around the time of the October xxxx stock market crash, Queeny retired and turned over the company leadership to his son, at which time the company became known as Monsanto Chemical Company. Over the next 65 years, Monsanto became synonymous as an industry leader in rubber, plastics, synthetic fibers (e.g. phosphates and polystyrene) and PCB patents which it licensed internationally as a lucrative monopoly.
However, scandal surrounded the company due to its affiliation with such products as Agent Orange (a toxic defoliant used in Vietnam War), an intrauterine birth control device called the Copper 7, PCB's (polychlorinated biphenyls, which are now banned but still associated with cancers relating to the immune, reproductive and nervous systems), insect pesticides containing dioxin, the food additive aspartame, and fertilizer contaminated by toxins. Monsanto has also been fined for discharging toxic waste pollutants and effectively poisoning the water supply located near its manufacturing facilities.
If you believe that a secret cabal of powerful corporations heavily financed and covertly influenced high-ranking American politicians during the turbulent xxxx's and xxxx's, Monsanto was probably one of those corporations.
This authentic xxxx stock certificate features a vignette of two young, curly-haired lads wearing togas and seated on a marble bench as one lad reads and the other writes. The document has a dollar-bill green mosaic border with a pinwheel at bottom center. Beneath the pinwheel, it states that Western Bank Note and Engraving Company (Chicago) created the certificate, which is hand-signed by both the company secretary and its president.
Document is in Excellent condition with no rips or tears and measures 11 3/4 X 7 3/4 inches.
