xxxx Great Depression black-and-white photo of three brick buildings primarily occupying Chicago's 627-629 W. Madison Street, just a bit east of where the Dan Ryan Expressway resides today.
The first building is a tavern named Palisade whose windows advertise beer (5 cents per glass), schooners (which are beers in a very large glass at 10 cents per glass) and wines/whiskeys/gin at 10 or 15 cents per glass. Palisade also advertises a limited lunch menu.
Second building is tavern named Sherman's Place whose window advertises wares and prices very similar to the first tavern, except that wines and gin are not specifically mentioned, just whiskeys. Sherman's Place also displays flags above its windows inviting visitors and tourists attending the xxxx World's Fair to enter their establishment.
Third building is the Uptown Restaurant which displays three signs in the main window to promote daily food specials. A vintage automobile sits on the curb directly in front of the restaurant.
All three buidings contain rental apartments located atop the business establishments.
Photo is in Excellent condition except for three hole punches near the top edge. Measures 8 13/16 X 11 inches & suitable for framing.
