1935 Memorandum - They Walk and Chew Gum at Same Time (Wrigley) in Chicago, Illinois For Sale

Genuine xxxx business memorandum on the letterhead of Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, a chewing gum manufacturer located at 410 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. Document features a small graphic in upper-left corner depicting a blue-shaded American bald eagle framed by a bright red motto stating "NRA Code".
In the midst of the Great Depression when unemployment rate topped at about 25%, NRA stood for National Recovery Act of xxxx which was Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal attempt to end the depression, create a recovery by stimulating the industrial base, create new labor standards regarding the work week, hours and wages, eliminate competition, and create jobs.
The act further called for industrial self-regulation and declared that codes of fair competition for the protection of consumers, competitors, and employers were to be drafted for the various industries of the country. More than 500 codes of fair practice were adopted for the various industries. Patriotic appeals were made to the public, and firms were asked to display the Blue Eagle, an emblem signifying NRA participation. From the beginning, the NRA reflected divergent goals and suffered from widespread criticism. The codes did little to help recovery, and by raising prices, they actually made the economic situation worse.
Note: William Wrigley Jr. purchased control of the Chicago Cubs in xxxx, and team ownership remained within the Wrigley family until xxxx when Wrigley's grandson engineered the sale of the team to the Chicago Tribune Company for $20.5 million.
Document is in Excellent condition and has retained most of its original crispness. Hand-signed by a Wrigley Vice-President, the document measures 8 7/16 X 10 7/8.
