Two Forest Park IL Vintage Letterheads Including Waldheim Cemetery Co. in Chicago, Illinois For Sale

Price: $12
Type: Art & Antiques, For Sale - Private.

These two vintage letterheads pertain to Forest Park IL, which abuts Chicago on its western border near Madison and Harlem Avenues and a bit south from there.
Waldheim Cemetery Co. letterhead (dated xxxx) is the more historical of the two. Before it became a burial grounds, Waldheim served as resting place of many Native American Indians who settled and were buried in the area.
Established in xxxx, Waldheim Cemetery's opening coincided with Chicago's ban on new cemeteries within its city limits in xxxx. In the late xxxx's, Chicago also ordered the closure of its City Cemetery (now known as Lincoln Park) pursuant to a lawsuit, and the relocation of bodies and monuments from there was a horrendous undertaking which fed the strong demand for burial grounds in nearby municipalities. At that time, both Graceland and Rosehill Cemeteries (to the north) and Oak Woods Cemetery (to the south) were just outside the City limits.
Also around this time, cemeteries adopted the knack for the natural landscape design that we are familiar with today. Before then, cemeteries lacked curving roads, density of trees and shrubbery, ponds or other water elements and grand entry gates.
Waldheim Cemetery has a section dedicated to those of Jewish faith which is the largest Jewish burial grounds in the Chicago metropolitan area and where nearly 180,000 are interred among a fascinating array of densely-packed stone monuments spanning about 200 acres.
This letterhead is in Very Good condition and contains two small holes punches at top-center. It features a vignette of the grand entrance gates and is hand-signed by Cemetery Superintendent Jacob Schwab. Price is $12.
The Harlem Garage letterhead (xxxx) pertains to an automotive repair shop located at xxxx W. Madison Street and is hand-signed by proprietor Gottlieb Schwab. Letterhead features company insignia at top left and right corners and a giant skinny tire spanning most of the left margin. Apparently automobile tires were quite skinny in xxxx. Letterhead is in Very Good condition and contains two small holes punches at top-center. Price is $7.
I can mail both documents to you inside a bubble mailer braced with a thin piece of cardboard for just $1 extra if that is more convenient for you.
