HOW YOULL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
The Senior Counsel, Global Patent Team : Wrigley will report to the Associate General Counsel : IP Wrigley (AGC:IP)/Chief Patent Counsel. The Senior Counsel, Global Patent Team will support various Research and Development functional groups located globally (with primary emphasis on the R and D facilities in Chicago, IL on the Goose Island Campus) in order to develop and implement new and improved products and processes to support Wrigleys global business initiatives. The role will advise various R and D functions to support both technical developments and address contract needs related to IP issues in order to deliver comprehensive IP related support to the assigned R and D group(s). In addition, the role will work with other members of Wrigleys global Legal Department, as well as IP members of other Mars segments, to effectively support the Wrigley business.
The role requires substantial experience in patent drafting, prosecution and analysis, as well as broader experience in intellectual property related transactions and/or litigation. Intellectual property transactional or litigation experience is a plus.
A successful applicant will be self:motivated to maintain awareness of legal and technical issues relevant to the position, as well as having a strong interest in the underlying business, to provide pragmatic, cost:effective, business:friendly solutions to the IP issues that arise and further support driving change throughout the business organization.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
:Working with assigned R and D group(s) and IP Team members to conduct preliminary patent searches, identify potentially patentable subject matter, draft and prosecute patent applications as well as work with outside counsel to support these activities, and perform Freedom to Operate analysis and related client counseling for assigned Innovation group(s).
:Working with IP Team to provide competitive intelligence and pro:active IP strategy counseling to assigned R and D group(s).
:Directly advising assigned R and D group(s) with respect to IP:related contracts, including for example, confidentiality, consulting and research agreements, joint development agreements, etc.
:Managing and providing counsel on trade secret and confidentiality:related matters for assigned R and D group(s).
:Working with other Law Department Associates to provide IP:related advice and support for transactions and client counseling.
:Advising regarding intellectual property aspects of licensing, M and A and commercial activities as assigned by Associate General Counsel :Intellectual Property.
:Managing litigation:related activities as assigned by Associate General Counsel : Intellectual Property
:Developing and provides IP training for innovation groups and business and commercial operations as assigned
