Title: Packaging Engineer Location: IL-Chicago Overview: Central Supply Chain Engineering provides high-level expertise and leadership in Process, Packaging, Automation & Controls, and Project Management. The group's key deliverables are: - Manage Technical Standards Programs - Assure Standard Designs with Latest Best Practices and Continuous Improvement - Project Management for New Factory Projects and Select Strategic Global Projects - Lead and Manage Technical Portion of Sustainability Program - Training and Building of Engineering Competencies - Support PET/Innovation Development - Special Projects and Technical Support Packaging Engineering Accountabilities: * Create high-level, inventive ideas in gum and confectionary packaging engineering, material handling, and facilities that lead to packaging improvement opportunities for the business. * Research, monitor, and assess existing and new packaging equipment, in the market, that has potential application to Wrigley. * Collaborate with Central, Regional, and Factory Engineers to deliver new, and optimize existing, packaging systems. * Keep abreast of current engineering technology and incorporate these concepts into practical designs. * Ensure technical integrity of existing and new equipment and/or systems and their adherence to the Global Engineering Design, Quality, and Safety standards. * Provide technical expertise and support, if necessary, to major capital projects that may include new factories, capacity expansion, and new product introductions. * Benchmark key systems to identify opportunities to increase capacity, while minimizing overall investment. * Support factory or regionally driven improvement programs to ensure that all key process KPIs are operating to demonstrated best in class. * Share best practices across all regions and ensure they are implemented in our Global Packaging and/or Machine/System Design Standards * Work with engineering teams across all regions to identify opportunities to reduce the cost of ownership of existing assets. * Lead Global Technical Expert teams in the evaluation of best practice ideas and factory packaging troubleshooting. * Lead the maintenance of existing, and the development of new packaging equipment/system design standards, and their communication to the factories. * Lead the maintenance of existing, and development of new packaging engineering training modules. * Work with utility teams across all regions to identify and implement best practices to reduce energy consumption. * Establish and maintain ethical and good-standing relationships with equipment suppliers and design firms. * Perform special projects as assigned by the Packaging Engineering Group Leader or Engineering Director. Requirements: * BS in Mechanical Engineering, MS preferred * Minimum 10 years related experience in a packaging design environment and/or a direct food/confectionary environment. Cross functional experience is highly valued * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Customer orientated mindset with strong applied knowledge of Lean Thinking and Design * Advanced competency in Machinery Design, Integrated System Design, Control Sequences, and all required engineering calculations * Strong project and people management skills * Demonstrated ability to work on several projects at a time of varying scope and effectively prioritize workload to ensure deliverables are met * Self directed, forward thinking, and capable of making complex decisions that drive business performance * Proficient computer use * This position requires a passionate individual who demonstrates initiative, takes ownership for project work, and exhibits a high level of personal leadership, conviction and spirit of innovation * Ability to travel internationally The Wrigley Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
