After 8 years Wigan have been relegated from the Premier League. The Lancashire outfit were beaten 4-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates.I a tight affair at the beginning, Arsenal looked sharp. Wigan's defence fell asleep during a Cazorla corner and Lukas Podolski was on hand at the back post to nod the ball into the net. After the Lukas Podolski opener, Shaun Maloney curled a beautiful free-kick into Szczesny's net and the hopes of Wigan and Spurs fans were elevated. Was the great escape on again? Heading into half-time, one could have felt that Wigan might be able to repeat a similar scoreline to the 1-2 win they enjoyed here at a similar point last season.Wigan came out strong in the second half and Kone was denied by a superb Szczesny save and the linesman deemed McCarthy's effort to be offside.Arsenal found their way into the game and suddenly Cazorla forced a fantastic double save by Joel.Callum McManaman, Wigans man of the match vs Manchester City in the FA cup final was forced off through injury and this seemed to give Arsenal the impetus that they needed.5 Five minutes later Theo Walcott scored from close range after great work by midfield dynamo Santi Cazorla. Another five minutes later Lukas Podolski found himself onside and scored another, after that Wigans dismal evening went from bad to worse as Aaron Ramsey burst into the box and gave Joel no chance.Arsenal continue their march towards the top four whereas the Premier League say goodbye to Wigan Athletic, after eight years in the top flight.Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Ramsey, Arteta, Rosicky, Walcott, Cazorla, Podolski. Subs: Fabianski, Vermaelen, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Monreal, Jenkinson, Gervinho.Wigan: Robles, Boyce, Scharner, Alcaraz, Espinoza, McManaman, Maloney, McCarthy, McArthur, Kone, Gomez. Subs: Al Habsi, Caldwell, Watson, Di Santo, Henriquez, Fyvie, Golobart.Wonderkid Adnan Januzaj is the subject of interest from Spanish giants Barcelona as United prepare to offer the youngster an improved contract.Januzaj's current deal expires at the end of this season and after his winning performance against Sunderland on Saturday evening, where he netted United's two goals in spectacular fashion, the club is desperate to tie him down to a new deal. The young midfielder was an unused substitute in Sir Alex Ferguson's last ever game at the back end of last season and the Belgian-born lad impressed during the club's pre-season tour of the far east. Now Januzaj appears to have cemented his place in the first team set-up under David Moyes and his eye-catching performances have prompted interest from some of Europe's top clubs.Barcelona are said to be monitoring developments with Janzaj's contract talks and are prepared to pounce should he reject a new deal. Manchester City and Juventus have also been reported to have registered an interest in signing the midfielder.Juventus famously stole another of Manchester United's youngsters in recent years when they snapped up powerful midfielder Paul Pogba upon the expiry of his contract at Old Trafford, something which is still talked about by the club's supporters as being a bad error of judgement given their torrid summer of failed transfers.Only seven games into the season, but already we?re starting to see cracks in our Premiership teams; weak links that just don?t seem to be bringing their teams any joy. Although it is hard to judge players so early into the season, statistically these players look terrible right now; so with a mix of the Squawka stats and fan opinion here are the current Nightmare Start XI of the Premiership. 1. Forward: Marouane Chamakh - Crystal PalaceThis former Arsenal player signed for Crystal palace in August xxxx, and it seems that he has has become an even bigger flop with the Eagles than he was with the Gunners. Starting the season poorly, Palace have had no joy with their new striker, scoring only one goal in seven games! Chamakh completely lacks the skill or confidence to be a main striker and with his transfer, Crystal Palace may have truly injured themselves. His utter aversion to the goal was proved against Southampton when the striker shamelessly attempted a dive instead of going for goal. Chamakh has yet to prove that he can compete at the Premiership level and his complete inability to score most certainly looks dangerous for Palace. This is one striker that I am glad Wenger got rid of!Squawka rating: 50 (far too high if you ask me!)2. Forward: Papiss Cissé - Newcastle Although a talented player who started his career extremely well, Cisse has yet to perform this season. The Senegal international showed promise at the beginning of his English career scoring 13 goals in 14 games! However, after a 10 game slump, the Magpies star striker now looks like more of a sparrow. At the moment he is no where near good form, with only one goal scored in the Mickey Mouse Cup, Mr Alan Pardew may have something to worry about. Talking to the Daily Mail, the Newcastle manager claims he still has faith in his striker and will not replace him. However, if Cisse?s performance remains as it is Pardew may be singing to a different tune come January...transfer anyone!3. Centre Midfield: John Obi Mikel - ChelseaMikel recently scored a blinding goal for Chelsea in their battle against Fulham. With power and an excellent finish it was most certainly a memorable one. It is a shame then, that it has taken 185 Premiersh Leauge appearances for him to get there! In his first season the young Nigerian player was fined on three occasions for being late to training. He has since been sent off numerous times in one instance causing a rather nasty conflict with one time Gunner, Kolo Toure. Although he has had some good seasons and some very good performances, this player is just too inconsistent and with the quality of the players at Chelsea right now, he may have truly lost his chance to shine. Squawka rating: 70 4. Centre Midfield: Craig Gardner - SunderlandWith a pass accuracy of 69% and an even worse shot accuracy this season, Craig Gardner is not a player to boast about. His awareness of opposition players is very poor, he is often dispossessed and poor at passing. These are three things that one definitely doesn't want to find in a midfielder - along with the fact that he can?t tackle to save his life! Although to give him his dues, Gardener is a great workhorse and always seems to be giving his all- just a pity that it isn't enough! Squawka rating: -185. Left Winger: Ashley Young - Manchester United Generally known as a great at Old Trafford, Young can be hailed for his brilliant performance history. However, history is exactly what it is. Although Ashley Young has proved to be a brilliant player in the past, recently his play has become utterly ineffective. He has some of the worst stats this season of any midfielder and it is for this reason why no-one would currently want him in their dream team.He is obviously a talented player, but one may argue that he is past his glory days and whether he can come back into form still remains to be seen. 6. Right Winger: Jason Puncheon - Crystal PalacePuncheon is the definition of an average player. Although there are players with worse stats, there are no wingers who have done as badly in this position as Puncheon. He lacks the creativity and flair a midfielder must have and with a shot accuracy of just 17% he would not be a first choice midfielder. Midfielders must be able to perform all over the pitch, but Puncheon simply can?t produce the goods near goal. Statistically he is poor and visually unentertaining; for this reason he must be bottom of the midfield bucket. Squawka rating: -12 7. Left Back: Kieran Richardson - FulhamStatistically Richardson is the poorest defender for Fulham this season. So far this season, Kieran has displayed all the traits that managers try to avoid in their defenders; poor discipline, little defensive impact and timid going in for the tackle. Okay, so the tackling thing may rightly be down to his reluctance to foul, but it's hard to ignore that in a defensive position, Kieran has not performed! One might advise Martin Jol to rethink his positioning; Richardson doesn't have the strength and discipline needed from a full-back. He is much better suited for a midfield role.Squawka rating: -30 8. Right Back: Ondrej Celustka - Sunderland This Sunderland defender has had a very poor season so far. Awful at holding, crossing and passing; whoscored.com can?t even find one strength for the player at the moment. Sunderland may regret his loan if Celustka?s form carries on as it is! Although, he has shown some promise in the past. During his time at the Turkish side Trabzonspor the youngster made at least 55 appearances, so there must have been something to like about him! For the moment however, he is not performing to the level we have come to expect in the league! Squawka rating: -56 9. Centre Back: Sébastien Bassong - Norwich City After watching Bassong last year you know he is not the worst defender out there, but right now he looks terrible. The one thing you want a defender to do well is too tackle and although it is early, his tackles so far have been clumsy and non effective. The worst thing is, that he is a good player, but with an injury this season he has not been able to perform to the best of his ability and thus has to be in this list. Squawka Rating: 49 10. Centre Back: Steven Taylor - Newcastle Just behind Celustka on the squawka board, Newcastle?s Steven Taylor is currently one of the poorest defenders in the league! So far, the only things he has won are the Squawka awards for ?Worst Man of Match?, ?Worst Team Player? and ?Worst Defender?! A warning to anyone who is tempted to include this centre back in their dream team.Squawka Rating: -44 11. Goalkeeper: Keiren Westwood - SunderlandWestwood is not only rated as the worst goalkeeper this season, but also the worst player. The performance based system on squawka, gives him a whopping -160 with only 2.7 goals saved per game and a 44% success rate! To top this Westwood has so far shown to be weak in saving close range shots and set pieces!Squawka rating: -160 There you have it, statistically the worst who bring no pleasure to the eye. If these players were all on a Fantasy Football team the unlucky person would be plummeting in points very quickly . If they were on an actual team you can be sure it would be relegated in a season. Then again it is the early days of the season and things are likely to change, but for now these are the worst starting players to have graced the green this season! Nasir Hossain is one of the young allrounders in Bangladesh who, if handled correctly, could be a long-term prospect for the national team in all forms. As a lower-middle-order batsman, Nasir can bat in different gears depending on the match situation; as an offspinner he has control and accuracy; and his fielding is perhaps the most exciting part of his game. His potential was seen in his first international game, when he scored 63 against Zimbabwe, the highest by a Bangladeshi on ODI debut. That performance led to his Test debut against West Indies in October xxxx, a month before his 20th birthday. Final decision to be taken on Tuesday | To retire next month | Ugra: A titanic goodbye | ESPNcricinfo staff picks | Ear-splitting, earth-shaking | Gallery: Tendulkar fans | Stats | His Mumbai roots | Have your say: Well-timed retirement?
